Support Service Manager
WestCana is looking for strong, experienced Full-time Support Service Manager in Victoria.
Do you have a strong combination of culinary and management experience!? Our business cares for seniors, but experience in this industry is not required - we are looking for the right person and will consider the right combination of management and experience from the hotel, restaurant or cruise ship industry.
Positions Information:
- Full-time: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm, 37.5 hours/week
- Wage: $65,000 - $70,000 /year
Experience and Qualifications We’re Looking For:
- Previous experience in a long term care or assisted living facility with working knowledge of Therapeutic diets and residential guidelines according to the health authority.
- Strong ability to lead, train, and develop staff within a team-oriented environment.
- Must be willing to work the hours necessary to ensure the effective operation of the facility.
- Certified in Nutritional Management (CSNM) with current standing in the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management, or willing to register and committed to learning the industry and residential care guidelines.
- Holds and Maintain Valid Food Safe Level 1 and WHIMS Certificates.
- Passes and complies with Ministry of Justice Criminal record Check upon hire and every 5 years thereafter.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbal and written.
- Willingness to be on-call and travel if needed is considered an asset.

Support Service Manager Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction to all Team Members, ensuring a positive, safe, and productive work environment.
- Supervisory duties include but are not limited to:
- Recruiting, training, and developing staff
- Scheduling, assigning, and monitoring work
- Evaluating Team Member performance
- Ensuring adherence to company policies and health/safety standards
- Resolving conflicts and grievances
- Taking appropriate disciplinary action in consultation with the Operations Manager and Human Resources
- Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of daily and special event menu plans to ensure individual dietary needs and nutrition standards are met or exceeded.
- Monitor food and supply costs to ensure they remain within approved budget allocations.
- Supervise food production, cleanliness of the dining room, and overall facility standards.
- In collaboration with WestCana corporate policies, coordinate the highest quality and most cost-effective food and supplies.
- Purchase, store, and manage inventory using WestCana’s inventory control systems.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations including Food Safe, HACCP, WHMIS, WorkSafeBC, and the Community Care Facility Act.
- Complete and respond to audits, including creating and implementing action plans as needed.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings, site/corporate committees, and department-specific discussions including Infection Control, OH&S, and Food Committee.
- Respond to emergency situations and participate in drills and safety education.
- Provide return-to-work support for injured workers and facilitate WCB paperwork.
- Investigate safety concerns and ensure corrective actions are taken and documented.
- Ensure all workers are trained and supervised to perform their work safely and with the proper PPE.
- Maintain availability for emergency calls and coverage of sick calls during non-office hours.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
