Chef / Sous Chef – Full-Time | Abbotsford, BC
Salary: $65,000 – $70,000 annually
Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (37.5 hrs/week)
WestCana is seeking a Certified Chef or Sous Chef to join our dedicated team at a long-term care facility in Abbotsford. This is a great opportunity for a culinary professional with volume food preparation experience who is passionate about delivering high-quality meals in a meaningful care environment.

Experience and Qualifications We’re Looking For:
- Red Seal Certification, Cook Level 1 or 2, or equivalent recognized culinary certification.
- Experience in a volume food production environment (e.g., healthcare, hospitality, catering, institutional settings).
- Valid Food Safe Level 1 Certification.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Clear Criminal Record Check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination as per health regulations.
- Previous experience in a senior care, healthcare, or residential facility is considered a strong asset.
- Candidates with less experience may be considered for a Sous Chef role.
Chef Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Support Services Manager, purchases the best quality and most cost-effective products that will meet or exceed the individual and group dietary needs of the facility’s residents.
- Provides leadership and direction to kitchen staff while following policies and procedures; organizing and directing staff orientation, scheduling and assigning work.
- Works with the departmental leadership team, maintaining or exceeding facility quality standards and special dietary requirements.
- Prepares food that meets or exceeds the appearance, taste, and quality expectations of the residents, families and clients.
- Prepares and/or monitors the preparation of daily and special event menu plans to ensure individual dietary needs and standards for dietary care are met or exceeded and costs remain within approved budget allocations.
- Implements and maintains inventory control systems to maximize savings and minimize waste.
- Ensuring all phases of food preparation meets or exceeds health and safety requirements i.e. Community Care Facility Act, WHMIS, WCB, provincial safety standards etc.
- All safety rules and safe work procedures are adhered to at all times.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
